Joint Winner - Safe Journeys for Children

Congratulations to a group of children in Room 6!  Samara's original idea of the Doughnut Monster came from drawing a picture of someone feeling hiakai (hungry).   Elizabeth

The main idea was to keep kids safe when riding a bike. I was really excited when it was announced that we got first equal.  We will get Stuart and Kennard for four days to help us make the movie of 'The Doughnut Monster's New Bicycle.' We are excited about that!  Samara

Invertebrates and Spiders...

On Friday we went to the Groynes and we saw some webs from the Nursery Spider.  What do you think is in the web?

We also found some invertebrates and insects like the water boatman and the back swimmer. We also found out what a baby mosquito looks like as a lavae.

Zometool Fun!

On Tuesday we played with Zometool for maths.  We made a hotel, it was the biggest in the class and everybody was crowding around us and wanting to help.  ZOMETOOL IS THE BEST TOY EVER!

Our QR Treasure Hunt...

On the first day of school we went on a treasure hunt for QR codes.  Miss K hid QR codes around the school.  We all went hunting for the QR codes.  It was hard doing a QR Treasure hunt!  At home I found a QR code on a cooking book and it was for a healthy food web site.  By Kaitlin

There were questions for each QR code and we had to answer them.  There were some in the playground,  stuck on classrooms.  It was quite fun hunting for the codes.  For Home Learning we have to make our own QR codes and bring them to school.  I am going to make a code for a lego site.  By Jackson

Away from home...

In the holidays I went to Auckland, Tauranga and Katikati.  I got to go to Kelly Tarltons and the Waitomo Caves, IT WAS SO COOL!!!!. It was dark in the cave when the lights went out.

I also got to hold a Planter Moth.  It felt kind of tickly.  Planter Moths only live for one night. I went biscuting on a lake.  I had an awesome time!

MADE Awards Tauranga

I had an AWESOME time in Tauranga! After the MADE awards I went out for dessert and some of the hosts were there too!

Abstract ART

Christchurch Art Gallery, Te Puna O Waiwhetu Screen Printing Lesson:

Today we went to the relocatable east and we learnt about abstract art. First we did the screen printing.  We wrote our name on the back of card and each group had to line up and wait for their turn.  When it was your turn you had to screen print your paper.  The lady put paint on the screen and you used the squeegee to go back and forth.  You then opened the lid of the screen and took your piece of paper off the screen printer.  After the screen printing we put dye on the paper and blew with the straw to move the paint around.

Passing Wind!!!

On Monday we went to the Hall to see a show put on by a man called Linsey Pollak. Rooms 6, 7, 8, LT 3 and 4 went to see Linsey Pollak. The show was called Passing Wind.

Linsey Pollak is a musician/musical instrument maker. He makes musical instruments out of all sorts of things like: garden hoses, irrigation pipe, fruit and vegetables, rubber gloves, balloons, wood and watering cans. The show was awesome because our best friend got to make a song with his name.

Our favorite instruments were the finger piano and the rubber bagpipe.  Click here to see Linsey playing the bagpipe

Movie Making: Children making Safer Journeys

I liked puppeteering all of the children in the movie.  I also liked colouring in and dyeing the backdrop for the movie.  Gabbie

I also liked doing the puppeteering and the nerd looks funny.  I help to colour in the backdrops and I liked dyeing them.  Samara
