Honeybee News - Behind the Scenes

These are the the photos of Room 6 behind the scenes.

Everybody helped to make the backdrops and Flynn and Luke worked on the script.

The people who filmed the documentary were Chloe, Flynn and Kyan.

Before we did the puppeteering we had to practise and learn our lines.  It was hard work, but it was worth it because we think it is a really good documentary.

Ouruhia Nursery...

Chloe, Charlotte and Nathan went to Ouruhia nursery to get flowers for our bee garden.  These are the flowers we brought from the nursery Oregano, Lavender, Sage and Cat mint.  We were going to get peaches, but we forgot to get them.

We went across the road and we took some photos of bees and beehives.  Chloe took some video footage.

Honey tasting...

Summer: 'The Manuka honey is really healthy.'  Maliyah: 'My favorite type of honey is Beech Forest honey, it tastes delicious!'  Leyam: 'I like the comb honey because it is sweet!'
Nathan: 'My favorite was the natural comb honey because it was sugary.'
Chloe & Charlotte: 'I didn't like the honey because it was too strong and minty.'

Trip to South Learning Centre - Matariki

Today we went to the South Library for Matariki.  When we were driving Nicholas and I were talking about trains in the van and we saw a kiwi rail train.  We saw lots of police cars.  When we got there Sam read us a book and Kelsey taught us what Matariki was.  We coloured some flowers on the computers and we printed the pictures out.  Then we played I-spy with my little eye when we were  driving back to school.  Nico

Today Rm 6 went to the South Learning Centre we went in the vans. We saw some police cars on the way and we saw a train. We got there and had to wait. We went inside the South Learning Centre. We sat down on the mat and we learnt about Matariki.

If it is clear and warm there will be plentiful harvest . We went on the computer and we made posters of flowers.  I made a Manuka poster. It is good for stomach aches, bruises and coughs.  Then we printed our posters. We went back in the vans and saw a train not moving.  We had a race and we lost.  When we got back to school we had lunch and a little play.

Today I went on a class trip to the South Learning Centre. We learnt about Māori Medicine.  There is a story tells the god of weather pulled out his eyes (threw them into the sky).  I had two favorite activities.  It was learning about the flowers and my second one was the poster making.

There were three flowers there was the Manukau, Kowhai and Harakeke.  The Manuka helps stomach aches, bruises and coughs. Kowhai helps sore throats, itching and colds. Harakeke helps toothaches blisters and burns. On the computer we made posters and we got to coloured it in.  I  did a kowhai poster.

New house...

In the holidays I moved house.  It has a pool and the water is up to my chin.  I found an egg in a tree, but a bird was not there.

Thematic Workshop...

In order to understand what an ecosystem is we need to learn about food chains and the food lifecycle of an ecosystem.

Task 1: Work with a buddy to use the iPad dictionary to find the meaning of the words: habitat, carnivore, herbivore and omnivore.

Task 2: Watch a youtube video on animals that are omnivores, herbivores and carnivores.

Task 3:  Work with a buddy to show others what these words mean.

Below are some examples of what the children came up with…

What we think we know...

We created popplets to share what we think about living things.

It's a Livin' Thing… Living World - How do they live?  How do they survive? Where do they live?  What to they need to survive?
