Honeybee News - Behind the Scenes

These are some of our original ideas.  We did a lot of exploring of ideas and had to think what we wanted to teach other children about Honeybees.

People use neonicotinoids on flowers and people probably don't know bees can die because of that.  Varroa mite hop onto bees and then they suck their blood and honeybees get diseases.

I did some puppeteering of a honeybee and I was the voice for the man who was spraying the apple tree.

Flynn designed the Honeybee News logo and Luke helped to colour this in…
These are our signs to say 'stop' varroa mite and 'stop' using neonicotinoids. Connor designed the 'stop' using neonicotinoids sign and Nathan designed the varroa 'stop' sign...

My Cat Woody...

My cat is Woody and she was seventeen years old. He got this name because of an old TV show called 'Cheers' and the to main characters were Sam and Woody. They were brothers and so were our cats.

Woody got stolen in February 1994 and taken to Bromley. My mum was on her honeymoon.  When they got back the the people that were helping thought that she was a boy because she was ginger and her name is a bit boyish.  My Mum rang up a few vets and we got her back.  Woody had a favourite spot on the edge of the couch in the sun.  She loved being warm.

Woody died in 2011 because of kidney failure.  I miss her, so so much!

Puppet Layla

My puppets name is Layla Jazz Candy. She is 10 years old and her birthday is the 28th of June. My puppets pink and purple hair is as wavy as the sea. Her eyelashes flutter as she blinks. Her mouth is purple with a pink love heart as a tongue. Her skin is as green as slime running through your hands. Layla's nose is purple and her eyes are green with purple underlay.

Layla's personality is creative with different equipment and she is loving to her family and friends. She is also a team player, so she makes new friends fast and she's a bit moody well a lot. Layla lives with her sister Jazz and her Mum and Dad. They live in a mansion that is 45 storeys high. Her room is on the 11th floor, Room 12, next to her sister's room and the playroom.

Her friends are Smiggle, Abigail, Jazz, Passion, Raro and Big Red. She goes to Puppet Valley School. Her Mum and Dad over spend on their daughters!!! Layla loves playing barbies. She loves reading books and she is very smart.

Layla likes to dance with her sister and friends. Layla and her sister are famous. In their mansion they go on the elevator and push all the buttons to go on all the floors.

Measuring circles for maths...

Today we went outside to measure circles. The biggest circle we measured was a giant clock on the front court, we guessed 200cm but it was 304cm.  Our smallest circle we measured was a cupboard lock, we guessed 4cm but it was 5cm.

Camp Fun!

The below photos are courtesy of Stella's Dad.  We had such fun at camp...

My Time at Camp...

At camp we did so many things I loved all of it . My favourite activity was archery.  It was scary at the start, but I got stronger.  The only thing I didn't like was being there for only 3 days.  My mum was there as well and that was nice.  I want to go to Waipara camp again with my family and friends.

The Variety Bash at Freeville School

On our court we had a Variety Bash and the whole school was there.  They were raising money for kids all over New Zealand.  It was their first time at Freeville School.  They gave us lots of gifts.  They were raised thirteen million dollars so far.  It was lots of fun!  We got stickers, lollies, bracelets, popcorn and corn tubes.

The Lake Tekapo Trip

In the holidays I went to Lake Tekapo.  It was fun and weird at the same time.  It was the weather that was weird, but lets not go there just yet.  I want to talk about the water.  It was my first time water skiing.  It was scary but awesome aswell.  Now for the weather we had thunder and lighting storms, and snow in the middle of the night!  It rained most of the time, but my family was there and that made my happy.

Holiday Snapshot: Beautiful Lake Tekapo

Looking at the beautiful lake and hills.  The sun rising up and all the birds chirping happily.
